Young Democrats of Maryland Leader, Joseph Kitchen found Dead in Washington D.C.
Joseph Lynn Kitchen, the
President of Young Democrats of Maryland was found dead in Washington D.C.
He was reported to have
been missing after he was last seen on August 8 at Sandy Point State Park in
Annapolis, Maryland, which is about 40 miles east of Washington.
It was said by Prince
George County Police that his body was found on Sunday, about a week after he
was reported to be missing. There has been no information about how he died, as
the police have not reported any information in that regard.
The Young Democrats of
Maryland tweeted on Sunday night “With a heavy heart, we are sad to say that
Joseph Kitchen has passed. Joseph Kitchen was the President of the Young
Democrats of Maryland. A kind heart that has impacted so many. Rest in peace,
Joseph Kitchen.”
Joseph taught at the
Washington School for Girls, and just last month he posted on social media that
he was struggling with being away from school and his students also.
The Washington School for
Girls also made a post concerning Kitchen’s death on social media via their
Facebook page, “It is with profound sadness that we share with you the news
that our colleague, Joseph Kitchen has been found deceased. As an integral part
of the WSG community for so many years, our hearts are heavy; we can’t even
fully process this loss at the moment. Please pray for Joseph’s family, our
community, and all who loved him. Counseling services will be available to
support our students and staff through this difficult time. He will truly be missed.”
There has been a large
pool of support from local and state officials as well as politicians as the
news concerning Kitchen’s death broke out.
Ben Jealous, the former
gubernatorial candidate said “He was such a good public servant and so young.
Maryland State Delegate
who represents Prince George County, Jazz Lewis said also said “In everything
Joseph did, he advocated for young people… He was fearless in calling out
local, state, federal, and even party leadership if he felt young people
weren't given a fair hand.”
“I am terribly sad to
learn of the loss of Joseph Kitchen… I am terribly sad to learn of the loss of
Joseph Kitchen,” U.S Representative, Jamin Ben Raskin Said.
With the uncertainty of
the cause of his death, a spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police Department
in Washington has confirmed that there is an ongoing investigation into the
death of Kitchen.
