A ticker is set of characters representing an asset listed on a stock exchange. Each publicly traded companies have their own ticker symbol (eg. = AMAZON is AMZN, Microsoft is MSFT, Boeing is BA). Stocks traded on the NYSE are made up of up to 3 characters, all stocks on the NASDAQ have 4 characters, stocks on the FTSE have up to 4. And each symbol usually comes with a number next to it. The number tells the price of the stock.
EG, AMZN 1798.98 or MSFT 159.26
