What happened on the stock market today

Today the market sold off due to the fear of the second wave of Covid-19 pandemic. When COVID was growing fast in the United States, the country shut down and then enforce a stay at home order in other to flatten the curve. The move worked for a while until some states decided to open back again.
The move to open back up started because the federal government wanted to stop the economic decline. Sadly, this has appeared to be a wrong move as many states may end up shutting own again.
Apple has announced that it would close 6 stores in Texas today as the coronavirus cases in Texas continues to surge. California is also another state that saw a high increase in new cases.
New York and New Jersey have announced a 14 days mandatory quarantine for travelers from hot spot cities, this along with all the bad news that is hitting the market caused people to sell ahead of the fear of states shutting down gain.
