Wednesday On The Nigerian Stock Exchange

At the end of Wednesday's trading session on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE), a total of 239,249,005 shares were traded in 3,746 deals. These shares were worth N 1,663,022,140.16. When compared with Tuesday's trading session, today's data shows a 29% decline in volume, 38% decline in turnover, and 11% decline in deals. The current NSE market capitalization is NGN 20.48 trillion.
In the aggregate, 106 listed equities participated in trading, today, which ended with 21 gainers and 22 losers.
On the part of gainers, Conoil came out tops with 9.97% share price appreciation closing at NGN 18.75 per share, followed closely by Studio Press Nigeria (+9.88%), Eterna (+9.48%), and University Press (+9.4%). On the part of losing, Guinness Nigeria performed poorly, with an end-of-day price depreciation of 9.89% at NGN 28.70 per share, followed by Portland Paints & Products (-9.85%), Academy Press (-9.76%), and Learn Africa (-8.26%).
Stocks in the financial services industry saw the most action, as
Access Bank recorded 28.1 million traded shares, followed by Fidelity Bank at 17.17 million. Mutual Benefits Assurance and Guaranty Trust Bank came behind with 16.81million and 13.68million respectively.
Regarding the performance of NSE market indices, the All-Share Index went up 0.29 percent (112.76) points to close at 39,128.34, representing a 1-week gain of 1.27 percent, a 4-week gain of 1.05 percent, but an overall year-to-date loss of 2.84 percent. Other indices that performed were the NSE Premium Index which went up 0.36 percent from yesterday, NSE Banking Index which went up 2.25 percent, NSE Pension Index which went up 0.78 percent, and NSE Top 30 Index, which went up 0.46 percent.
