Umahi Urges Swift Project Completion, Stresses Importance of Concrete Road Layouts for Job Creation

Amidst celebrations, the recently appointed Minister for Works, Senator David Umahi, has officially assumed his role, promising swift advancements in nationwide projects. Drawing from his success as the former Governor of Ebonyi State, Umahi conveyed his commitment to replicating his accomplishments on a larger scale, particularly in the domain of infrastructure.

Addressing both Ministry staff and contractors overseeing various national projects, Umahi expressed his concerns over the alarming condition of federal roads across the country. He shared his vision for the Ministry of Works under his leadership, emphasizing the exploration of local materials and techniques for road construction, including innovative methods like concrete pavement.

Umahi also revealed plans to introduce the concept of Public Private Partnership (PPP) in the Ministry's endeavors. This strategy would encourage private sector participation in the construction and management of federal roads for a designated period. While he acknowledged the prospect of tolling federal highways, Umahi asserted that the immediate priority was the swift and efficient completion of ongoing road contracts.

"We aim to reintroduce PPP to involve private entities in road construction and management for a duration. Tolling on our federal expressways might come later, but for now, our focus is on fixing these roads," Umahi emphasized.

In his determination to foster progress, Umahi pledged to eliminate unnecessary bureaucratic obstacles that have hindered the Ministry's efficiency. He envisioned a collaborative approach between civil servants and contractors, streamlining processes and accelerating the pace of work.

Additionally, Umahi disclosed plans to introduce road construction on rigid pavement, a novel approach aimed at enhancing road durability. This innovative concept mirrors his successful strategies implemented during his tenure as Governor of Ebonyi State.

Meanwhile, in a related event, the Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, paid a courtesy visit to Minister Umahi. Commending Umahi's expertise in road infrastructure, Governor Bello hailed him as a visionary leader equipped with solutions to address the nation's road challenges. The visit highlighted the recognition and support for Umahi's vision to drive transformative change in the realm of infrastructure and works.
