The Nigerian Stock Exchange is the marketplace where all Nigerian stock investors meet. Investors who want to invest in Nigerian company stocks can only buy and sell shares of publicly listed companies on the Nigerian Stock Exchange, based in Lagos. There is an option for investors who want to trade private equities can do so through the National Association of Security Dealers Over-The-Counter (NASD OTC).
How to invest in the Nigerian stock market?
To start investing or trading equities in the Nigerian stock market, you must open a brokerage account with any approved stockbroker in Nigeria. To open an account, you will be required to provide a government-approved means of identification, bank account details, BVN, passports photographs, next of kin details, and other necessary details.
It is also advisable to open a Central Securities Clearing System (CSCS) account. CSCS is a market aggregator that serves as a warehouse for all stock brokerage accounts in Nigeria. It allows account holders to view their portfolios independent of their stockbrokers. It charges an annual fee of 2,000 naira to 5,000 naira.
