Piaoyang became the head of Jiangsu in 1990 at the age of 32. He soon took over the state-led Jiangsu Hengrui Medicine in 1990 and has since turned it into one of China’s largest producers of anti-infection and anti-cancer medicines.

He is married to Zhong Huijan who is the chair of Hanosh Pharmaceutical, listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange in June 2019.

The company is well recognized for its manufacturing of products such as antineoplastic drugs, contrast agents, antibiotics, angiomycardic drugs, drugs for surgery, specialty infusions, and others.

The company was previously owned and run by the state, until 1990 when Piaoyang acquired it and reestablished it in 1997. It was officially listed on the Shanghai Stock Exchange in 2000. The company is headquartered in Lianyugang, Jiangsu.
