Stock Market Today: Dow, S&P 500, Nasdaq Futures Slip as Trump Rings the NYSE Opening Bell

U.S. stock futures edged lower Thursday as investors awaited fresh inflation data, with hopes high that the Federal Reserve will cut interest rates next week.

Dow Jones Industrial Average futures dipped 0.1%, S&P 500 futures fell 0.2%, and Nasdaq 100 futures slid 0.3%, leading the decline. Adobe (ADBE) shares dropped nearly 12% pre-market after issuing a disappointing revenue forecast, raising concerns over its AI investments.

Investors are also keeping an eye on inflation updates, with wholesale price data set to follow Wednesday’s in-line consumer price index reading, which boosted the Nasdaq Composite above 20,000 for the first time. Expectations for a Fed rate cut in December now stand at 99%, according to the CME FedWatch tool.

Meanwhile, President-elect Donald Trump will ring the iconic New York Stock Exchange opening bell today, marking a historic moment. The event recalls former President Ronald Reagan, who became the first sitting president to ring the bell in 1985.

Trump has long tied stock market performance to his economic policies. The S&P 500 rose 61% during his first term and has gained 58% under President Joe Biden through Dec. 11.
