With the increasing spread of coronavirus in the United States, Starbucks (SBUX) said customers who shop from the company-owned locations would be required to wear a face mask from July 15, 2020.
The announcement is in compliance with the recent conditions retailers and restaurants are trying to use to protect the lives of their employees without agitating customers who do not wear a mask. On Monday, the Retail Industry Leaders Association pleaded with some state governments to intervene in ensuring that customers who are not affected by the virus wear a face mask when shopping. This is to avoid embarrassing the customers or creating unnecessary scenes in the company.
In some social media videos released to the internet, unnecessary embarrassing scenes of customers arguing and berating cashiers, baristas, and salespersons urging them to choose between wearing a mask or leaving the establishment were unveiled.
Therefore, in order to avoid such a scenario, Starbucks made it announced yesterday that it would be joining other companies in ensuring that from July 15th, customers would be required to wear a face mask. Companies that have adopted this measure include major airlines and Costco.
Starbucks said customers who are not ready to comply with this have other options. They can place a delivery order through the Starbucks app, use the Drive-thru ordering or curbside pick up.
Our priority is the health and well-being of our partners (employees) and customers. Starting July 15, U.S. company-owned Starbucks locations will require customers to wear facial coverings while visiting the café. Learn more: https://t.co/ldDfwTRe3n pic.twitter.com/1m0cMKChoV
