Spotify Founder, Daniel Ek, Sets Sights On Arsenal

Daniel Ek, CEO, and founder of music streaming app, Spotify, has expressed interest in owning football club Arsenal.

English football club, Arsenal has been having a turbulent time, and fans last week turned up at the Emirates Stadium to protest against Stan Kroenke's ownership and the decision to join The Super League.

Thousands of Arsenal fans protested against Kroenke's ownership ahead of their side's 1-0 home defeat to Everton on Friday evening, furious over The Super League and the many decisions made before it. Gunners fans have been unhappy with the ownership of the club, but the feelings worsened with the club's decision to join the ill-fated Super League. They were outraged by The Super League, which was seen as a breakaway competition started by, and indeed created to serve the rich.

During the protests, Daniel Ek took to Twitter to tweet, "As a kid growing up, I’ve cheered for @Arsenal as long as I can remember. If KSE would like to sell Arsenal I'd be happy to throw my hat in the ring."

Arsenal's worth is currently placed at about £2billion with annual revenues of £309million and an operating income of £33.8million. In the last two years alone, its value has gone up by 23% and has risen significantly since KSE bought the club.

While it's hard to estimate exactly how much Kroenke bought Arsenal for, as he bought shares in 2007 and increased shareholding four years later before the final purchase in 2018; the shares he bought in 2011 put the club's total worth at the time at £731 million.

No one is sure if Arsenal will indeed sell, as Josh Kroenke, the son of Stan Kroenke, did a forum with Arsenal fans last where he apologized for the club's part in the Super League saga and said that his family had no intention to sell the club.

According to Forbes, Daniel Ek is worth £3.38bn. He was named the most influential person in the music business by the American magazine Billboard in 2017 thanks to the influence of Spotify.
