From the just concluded general election in Zamfara State, Dr. Dauda Lawal emerged as the winner of the governorship election having contested under the People Democratic Party (PDP) to defeat Governor Bello Matawalle the incumbent governor who contested under the All Progressive Congress (APC).

Who Is Dauda Lawal?
Dauda Lawal Dare was born into an Ethnic Muslim Hausa family on the 2nd of September 1965 in Gusau. His Family is known in the Textile Industry in Gusau, Zamfara State. However, Dauda Lawal has always been a determined child as he took education seriously which earned him a B.Sc in political science from Ahmadu Bello University in the year 1987 after which he later completed his M.Sc. in political science/international relations from the same university in the year 1992. As a lover of education and knowledge, he furthered to do get his Ph.D. in business administration from the Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto. After getting his Ph.D. he went on to some prestigious universities overseas including the London School of Economics, Harvard Business School, Oxford University Business School, and Lagos Business School among others.
Dauda Lawal Career
Dauda Lawal started his career in 1989 as a political education officer with the Agency for Mass Mobilization for Social and Economic Reliance Nigeria. In that same year, he joined Westex Nigeria Limited as an assistant general manager. It was later in the year 1994 that he got appointed as the assistant consular officer (immigration), and was later appointed the chief protocol officer, Embassy of Nigeria, Washington, D.C., US. At a step in his career, Dauda Lawal joined the First Bank of Nigeria in May 2003 as was appointed relationship manager, commercial banking, and most times senior manager. Between 2010 and 2011, Dauda Lawal rose to be the vice president, of the public sector, North of First Bank of Nigeria Plc. While in 2012 he became executive director, of Public Sector North, of First Bank of Nigeria Plc.
Dauda Lawal Political Career
In 2018, Dauda Lawal ran for the office of the Governor of Zamfara State but lost in the governorship primaries to Mukhtar Shehu Idris in the APC primaries. He later decamped to the PDP after which he won the primaries and became the PDP governorship flagbearer in 2022 which led him to defeat the incumbent governor of the state Bello Matawalle.

Dauda Lawal has won the FirstBank CEO Merit Award for Outstanding Performance as the "Best Business Development Manager" in 2006 and "The Most Enterprising Staff" in 2009.

Nigeria public Transparency Initiative Group (NPTIG) an anti-corruption group has urged the federal government to investigate the link of $40 million that was traced to Dauda Lawal a former Executive Director of the First Bank. Speaking to a journalist in Sokoto, the group's National Coordinator, Dr. Hamisu Bayero urged relevant authorities to convey Dauda Lawal for questioning as to how $40 million was linked to his bank account since it was illegal for him to take business outside as the Executive Director of First Bank.
