NPPAN Urge the Government to Test All Oil Brought Into the Country

The National Palm Produce Association of Nigeria (NPPAN), which represents farmers throughout the nation, is urging the Federal Government to work with the union to develop palm oil markets in order to fight oil adulteration.

Mr Alphonsus Inyang, President of NPPAN, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja that putting test and rating equipment at these markets is critical to ensuring an in-depth examination of every oil brought in for sale.

Rating techniques, as stated by Mr Inyang, will allow for the classification of Technical Palm Oil (TPO), Special Palm Oil (SPO), and Crude Palm Oil (CPO). This plan will place Nigeria at the forefront of palm oil grading rules.

Mr Inyang advocated a coordinated strategy between the government and NPPAN to effectively address and eradicate palm oil adulteration.

Inyang stated, “In curtailing the menace of palm oil adulteration in the country, we are proposing to the government to work with us. We have designed a model.” He further emphasized the need for the government to establish palm oil markets and equip them with testing and grading facilities to ensure thorough evaluation of all oils brought to market.”

According to Inyang, the establishment of palm oil markets will aid in the proper detection of contaminated oils. He also emphasized the NPPAN's willingness to give technical support and the need of working with government organizations like the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC).

Inyang suggested that security agents perform checks in rural marketplaces where adulteration is common, as well as oil depots where dangerous compounds are combined with palm oil, creating health dangers. 

He emphasized that, although the business is willing to advance these projects, the government's assistance and engagement are critical given the significant expenses involved.

Nigeria can solve the problem of palm oil adulteration, protect consumer health, and build palm oil marketplaces by adopting thorough testing techniques to develop palm oil markets. Collaboration between the government and NPPAN will be critical in accomplishing these objectives and assuring the development of Nigeria's palm oil business.
