Nigerian Stock Exchange: Summary Of Thursday's Activity

At the end of Thursday's trading session on the Nigerian Exchange Group, a total of 214.17 million shares were transacted in 3,565 deals which correspond to a market value of NGN 1.34 billion. When compared with Wednesday's trading session, the data for today shows a 5% improvement in volume but a 26% decline in turnover. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Exchange is NGN 19.84 trillion.

 

In the aggregate, 107 equities participated in trading, which ended with 16 gainers and 22 losers.

For gainers, Mutual Benefits Assurance topped the list, with 7.32% share price appreciation to close at NGN 0.44 per share, followed by Regency Alliance Insurance which went up by 7.14%. Cutix was closely behind with 7.14% as well, followed by Consolidated Hallmark Insurance with 6.35%. 

 

On the side of losers, Sovereign Trust Insurance came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 10% at N0.27 per share, followed by Associated Bus Company which lost 8.11%. Academy Press and Royal Exchange were next with losses of 7.69% 6.33% respectively.

 

Sovereign Trust Insurance recorded the highest volume of traded shares with 27.1 million, followed by Mutual Benefits Assurance with 17.16 million. Next was UAC of Nigeria (UACN) with 15.68 million and Transnational Corp. of Nigeria 12.52 million.

 

 

On the part of market indices, the NSE All-Share Index went down by 0.49% to lose 189.1 points, closing at 38,044.58. This represents a one-week loss of 0.74% and a month's loss of 3.24%.

Other notable indices are the NSE Food and Beverage Index which gained 0.13%, and the NSE Insurance Index which lost 0.25%.
