Former US President, Donald Trump Indicted on 30 Counts of Document Fraud

Trump is the first U.S. president, former or otherwise, to be charged in a criminal case. However, there is no law against Trump seeking the presidency while facing charges, let’s get into it.

An Indictment has been issued by the New York Grand jury against former president Donald Trump and he’s been charged with approximately 30 counts of document fraud. The indictment, which was approved Thursday, remains sealed in the Manhattan Supreme Court but they stem from payments made during the 2016 presidential campaign to silence claims of an extramarital sexual encounter.

Documents presented in Cohen's federal prosecution reveal that Trump Organization officials approved payments amounting to $420,000 to reimburse him for the initial $130,000 payment, cover tax liabilities, and grant him a bonus. The Trump Organization listed these payments as a legal expense in its internal financial records. Trump maintains that he was unaware of the payment.

Trump released a statement in response to the indictment claiming it was "Political Persecution and Election Interference at the highest level in history."

"I believe this Witch-Hunt will backfire massively on Joe Biden," he said.

In his statement, he said :

“The American people realize exactly what the Radical Left Democrats are doing here. Everyone can see it. So our Movement, and our Party -- united and strong -- will first defeat Alvin Bragg, and then we will defeat Joe Biden, and we are going to throw every last one of these Crooked Democrats out of office so we can MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!"

The defense lawyer for Donald Trump, Joe Tacopina said that the former president had initially been asked to turn himself in to the authorities a New York after the indictment vote. The commencement of legal proceedings against Trump has shaken up the 2024 presidential race, as the ex-president has committed to continuing his candidacy despite facing criminal accusations.

Overall, this indictment including 30 counts of document fraud, against a former US president is the first of its kind and it may come as a shock to all who hear of it. Regardless of the charges against him, Donald Trump maintains his position as a candidate for the coming election seeing as the law does not state that he cannot. It remains to be seen, all that is yet to unfold as the public patiently awaits the outcome of the indictment.
