Los Angeles Clippers team up with Local
Businesses in Honor of Black History Month
The Los Angeles Clippers are launching a new project
using their platform and social media outreach during February. In honor of Black
History Month, the team will showcase the accomplishments of African Americans
around the city by promoting local, Black-owned companies.
The Clippers, The Forum, and its G-League franchise,
the Agua Caliente Clippers of Ontario, will all publicly acknowledge Black
employees. The company announced both components of their initiative in a press
release.
“We are excited to use our platforms and collective
voice to spotlight the employees of color that make all three of our
organizations thrive, and to support the Black-owned businesses that help to
shape and strengthen our communities,” said Denise Booth, the Clippers’ Chief
Diversity & Inclusion Officer.
Black employees across the Clippers' operations have
formed a "Black Community Alliance" (BCA), which is an empowerment
and equality resource group with the goal of giving fellow employees a stronger
voice – whether it's pushing for societal change or creating personal and
professional opportunities for one another, according to the release.
This month, the BCA group will highlight personal
stories and content on the Clippers' official website's Black History section.
It will also highlight their professional backgrounds and why Black history is
significant to them.
The "LA Clippers Local Business Partners
presented by Honey" campaign is more than a one-time promotion for each
company. It's the start of a season-long collaboration, in which the Clippers
will provide resources and continuous assistance to each locally-owned business
for the rest of the season, even after the Black History celebrations.
During the month of February, the program intends to
provide a spotlight, tools, and assistance for businesses in Los Angeles. Each
game day, the Clippers will highlight six Black-owned businesses through social
media posts, email offers, and the Clippers App. Each business will have its
own video on the Clippers' YouTube page.
