Kamala Harris during campaign-trail debut: “America is crying out for leadership” | FULL SPEECH
Democratic Vice-Presidential
Nominee Senator Kamala Harris, who was picked by Joe Biden to be his running mate
in the forthcoming elections has blamed President Donald Trump for the outcome
of the coronavirus pandemic in the U.S, calling him delusional and claiming he failed
to take the outbreak seriously when it initially started.
During her first appearance
with Presidential candidate, Joe Biden in Wilmington, Delaware, she said “This
virus has impacted almost every country, but there’s a reason it has hit
America worse than any other advanced nation. It’s because of Trump’s failure
to take it seriously from the start,”
She further stated that “His
refusal to get testing up and running, his flip-flopping on social distancing
and wearing masks, his delusional belief that he knows better than the experts
— all of that is the reason and the reason an American dies of Covid-19 every
80 seconds,”
There has been no response
from President Donald Trump yet, but while we wait on a response concerning the
claims made against him by Harris.
Tim Murtaugh, who is
Trump’s campaign communications director, in response to all that Senator
Harris said, made it known that Trump has been leading the nation through the
coronavirus crisis and restricted travel from China, and then Europe, way back
in January.
“We now know that the
President’s decision saved countless thousands of American lives and that Joe
Biden would not have done it. If Joe Biden had been president, we would be in a
much worse situation today.” Tim further added.
Public health experts
have also put a blame on Trump and his administration over the rise of the number
of cases that have been reported in the U.S, pinning it to the fact that they
were not quick to take quality actions that will help contain the virus when it
first broke out, and there is still not any coordinated response between the
federal and state government.
Since the outbreak of the
coronavirus, President Trump has constantly apportioned the blame to China as
the cause of the whole pandemic, also insinuating that they were not sincere in
giving clear details as it concerned the extent of the outbreak.
According to research and
data compiled by John Hopkins University, the U.S has the worst coronavirus
outbreak in the world with over 5 million cases and at least a record of
163,328 deaths as of Wednesday.
Senator Harris also said “While
other countries were flattening the curve, he said the virus would just, poof,
go away, quote ‘like a miracle.’ So when other countries opened back up for
business, what did we do? We had to shut down again.” Saying also that “When
other countries are following the science, Trump pushed miracle cures he saw on
Fox News,”
At the event where Joe Biden
also spoke, he made a vow that if he is elected as President in the forthcoming
election, his administration “will have a comprehensive plan to meet the challenge of Covid-19
and turn the corner on this pandemic.” Stating that, “Masking,
clear science-based guidance, dramatically scaling up testing, getting states
and local governments the resources, they need to open the schools and
businesses safely,”
Joe Biden asked the President
and his Vice, Mike Pence to take responsibility for the outbreak that is plaguing
the country. He said “With more than 5 million reported infections and 165,000
people dead and climbing as a consequence of Covid-19 and still months later no
real leadership or plan from the president of the United States how to get this
pandemic under control. No real help for the states and local governments
trying to fill the vacuum of leadership from the White House,”
Earlier this week, Biden
kept his word by selecting a woman, Senator Harris to be his running mate in the
coming election. His choice will see him put up a good fight against the
pandemic, should they win the 2020 elections.
With Senator Harris already
making moves to resolve the issues caused by the coronavirus pandemic and also
calling for changes that will protect Americans, one of which is the inclusion of
federal laws which would bar landlords from evicting those who have rented
their apartment and also make funds available to those with a monthly income of
less than $120,000.
