Earlier this week, New Orleans Pelicans made an announcement that Jrue Holiday would be donating the remainder of his game check to charity and black-owned businesses. Since the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic in the United States in March, report revealed that black owned businesses are the worst hit.
In fact, statistics revealed that due to the effect of the pandemic more than 40% of black owned businesses are threatened with permanent closure if nothing is done to alleviate their situation. In addition to this, black business owners are finding it very difficult to benefit from federal government loans such as the PPP. This, coupled with the movement against the inhumanity suffered by blacks in the United States made a lot of supporters raise up to the plight of blacks, especially black, -owned businesses.
Among the supporters is Jrue Holiday who recently announced that he will be donating his remaining game check for the regular season to black-owned business and charity.
