iPhone 12: Apple to unveil new iPhones at Oct.13 event
Apple earlier today
announced the launch of its new product which will be done at an event on October
13.
The product launch event
will start at 10 a.m. PT/ 1 p.m. ET. In line with the ongoing coronavirus
pandemic and safety measures in place, the event will be streamed online. This
will be the first time Apple will have an online product launch, instead of its
usual in-person events at its Cupertino, California headquarters.
There have been press
rumors of the new iPhone being 5G. Suspicions arise as Apple names the invite “Hi,
Speed” which suggests faster data speeds for streaming movies and games, as
well as downloading.
At a September event,
Apple announced the launch of some of its new products including the new iPad
Air, the 8th generation iPad, and the new Apple Watch Series 6.
Apple typically announces the launch of its new products in September each year,
but the company said the iPhones will be delayed this year due to manufacturing
delays caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
During Apple’s
third-quarter earnings call in July, the company’s CFO Luca Maestri warned that
there could be a delay in the launch of the new iPhones.
“As you know, last year
we started selling new iPhones in September. This year, we project supply to be
available a few weeks later,” Maestri said.
Apple is finally set to
announce four new iPhone 12 models for the year. The new models include two “regular”
iPhone 12 models and two iPhone 12 Pro models. Their designs are expected to
be similar to the new iPad Air and iPad Pro which have sleek designs and
sharper edges.
According to TF
International Securities analyst and a leading Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the
new iPhone design will be similar to Apple’s 2010 iPhone 4 models. The screen
sizes will include 5.4 inch, 6.1 inch, and 6.7-inch displays. The analyst also
added that the new iPhone 12 models will not include headphones or chargers in
their boxes.
In April, Bloomberg
reported that the new iPhone 12 Pro models will have a new feature, the 3D
lidar sensor for augmented reality and three new cameras.
It is clear that the new
iPhone 12 phones will support the 5G network. Analysts also expect the new 5G
iPhones to lead a “supercycle” of device upgrades which will prompt more people
to buy the new iPhones. While the new models may support the 5G network, it may be
more effective in some areas than others. However, network providers such as
T-Mobile, AT&T, and Verizon are working on developing their networks to
meet 5G standards.
