To empower women in 2023, Arizona University invites interested candidates to apply for the 2023 WE Empower UN SDG Challenge. The WE Empower Challenge is a global competition for women who are advancing the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and are also an inspiration to the communities of their world to make a change on or before 2030.

It’s announced that on June 30, 2023, the successful awardees will be notified and will be opportune to travel to New York City, New York (NY) for the UN Global Goals/Climate week which will be held on September 16-23, 2023. Participants will go through a series of training by leading partners and also partake in high-profile events with the UN Officials.

Eligible Regions That Can Apply for the WE Empower UN SDG Challenge 2023

1. Before any applicant will be eligible to apply for the WE Empower UN SDG Challenge 2023, they should be able to answer basic information about themselves, their primary countries of business, and their business. Also, they should be located in the following regions:

• Middle East and North Africa

• Sub-Saharan Africa

• Europe and North America

• Asia-Pacific

• Latin America and the Caribbean

2. The application form requires answers about how your business relates to the United Nations sustainable development Goals and your plans and visions for a sustainable future.

Eligibility to Apply for the WE Empower UN SDG Challenge 2023

To be qualified to apply for the WE Empower UN SDG Challenge 2023, applicants must ensure that they meet the following criteria, while finalists are asked to provide evidence of sales (i.e. tax returns and/or audited financial records). 

• I am a woman entrepreneur with lead decision-making ability in a business or organization

• My business/organization has been in operation for more than three years

• I employ at least three full-time staff (or full-time equivalent)

• My business/organization generates at least $75,000 USD in annual sales or revenue

• I am proficient in spoken and written English

• I am at least 21 years old

• I am available to travel to New York, NY, and participate in all events from Monday, September 18 through Saturday, September 24, 2023 (COVID-19 travel restrictions permitting) and if necessary, I am able to participate in a virtual program from August through October 2023.

Considerations to Apply for the WE Empower UN SDG Challenge 2023

Applicants will be examined based on a list of factors which include the following considerations:

1. Commit to the entire week of the in-person program (travel permitting) or a virtual program held from August through October 2023 – no exceptions.

2. Applicant’s business or organization has a substantial impact on the SDGs and a clear vision for how their business will create the future we want in 2030.

3. Help shape the community dialogue about women’s advancement and the SDGs in their region, and wield the influence necessary.

For those applying with more than one organization or business please complete the application with the most preferred business/organization you’d like to focus on during this global challenge opportunity if you’re selected to participate in the program.

In this segment, you’ll need to submit a short video of yourself which is a maximum of 2 minutes giving out information and answering the questions listed below in English.

How to Submit a Video for the WE Empower UN SDG Challenge 2023 

1. Video attachments may be hosted on a video site such as YouTube or Vimeo

2. You may also upload a video file within the application platform

• File size should not exceed 20 MB

• Preferred file types are .MP4, .MOV and .WMV

3. Please do not upload any further written material with your video, as the judges will not consider these. The written component of your entry should be fully explained within the provided form fields.
