GM unveils its new electric Chevrolet Blazer

The new electric Chevrolet Blazer, which is anticipated to compete with the Ford Mustang Mach-E and Tesla Model Y crossover EVs, was unveiled by General Motors on Monday.

The car represents a significant launch for the automaker in promoting EVs and drawing in more average consumers.

According to GM, the 2024 Blazer EV is anticipated to start showing up in dealer showrooms next summer. Starting prices for Blazer models will be in the $45,000 to $66,000 range, with the "SS" performance model having a maximum output of 557 horsepower and 648 pound-feet of torque.

The Detriot automaker said, the crossover will have a 0-60 mph time of less than 4 seconds, which is similar to the Mach-E and Model Y Performance's 3.5 second time.

Between $35,000 and $43,000 is the starting price range for the conventional 2022 Blazer with an internal combustion engine.

Based on the four car models, the Blazer EV's features and capabilities may vary. Depending on the model, GM anticipates the vehicle's electric range, which is significant for EV owners, to be between 247 miles and 320 miles. According to officials, the company would also provide a variation based on the SS model for use by police.

Chevrolet has produced the lucrative Tahoe police cars for many years. Sales of Tahoe police cars to the government rose by 243% in the first quarter compared to the same period last year, according to GM.

At the same GM facility in Ramos Arizpe, Mexico where the conventional Blazer is put together, the new Blazer EV will be made.

The Blazer name and factory are shared by the new EV and a conventional internal combustion engine version, but the development, performance, and appearance of the two vehicles are entirely different. The next generation of GM's electric vehicles are planned to be built on the company's new Ultium platform, which is the basis for the EV.

When the Chevy Blazer EV hits dealerships early next year, it will be the brand's fourth electric vehicle. Earlier this year, GM unveiled the 2024 Silverado EV light-duty truck, which would be on sale the next year and start at $39,900. When it goes on sale in the fall of 2023, the Equinox EV SUV from General Motors is anticipated to have a starting price of $30,000. Next year, the Corvette will be available in an electrified form, according to GM.

With GM's more dated battery technology, the company currently offers the Bolt EV and Bolt EUV. The electric Silverado will only be sold in a small quantity beginning in the spring of next year.

Depending on the model, the vehicles have a basic DC public fast-charging capability of up to 190 kilowatts and 11.5 kilowatt level 2 (AC) charging. 78 miles of range can be produced by rapid charging in just 10 minutes, according to executive chief engineer Doug Houlihan.
