Fourth COVID-19 Stimulus Check
The IRS disbursed nearly 169 million payments in the
third wave of direct stimulus cash, with most American households receiving
$1,400 cheques. Some campaigners and lawmakers, on the other hand, are calling
for a fourth round of stimulus funding, which would be provided in installments
until the COVID-19 outbreak is hopefully gone.
The 2020 CARES Act was promptly passed by Congress
during the Trump administration to offer assistance to businesses and
individuals, including the first round of stimulus checks worth up to $1,200
for eligible adults and $500 for each eligible kid under the age of seventeen.
When workers' businesses were stopped or they were
compelled to stay at home due to pandemic-related disruptions, Congress
authorized significant enhanced pandemic unemployment payments, which helped
keep families afloat. Benefits were increased in 2020 and 2021, however they
have since expired, leading some to believe they are to blame for the country's
serious labor shortage.
To date, the government has paid out $3,200 to
qualified adults in response to the economic crisis caused by the pandemic:
$1,200 under the Coronavirus Aid Relief and Economic Security Act, signed in
March 2020, $600 under a December relief measure, and $1,400 under President
Joe Biden's American Rescue Plan, signed in March.
Despite this assistance, millions of citizens and
thousands of families remain in financial distress, and the spread of the
Omicron variant is adding to the economic difficulties. Over a third of
Americans struggled to pay their household expenditures in the previous week,
according to new data from a Census poll conducted in the first two weeks of
December.
Will there be a fourth stimulus check?
At this point, a fourth stimulus check is improbable.
Many people have recently called for the authorization
of a fourth stimulus check, stating that while the payments have stopped, the
pandemic has not. About three million people have signed a Change.org petition
seeking $2,000 payments for adults and $1,000 payments for children until the
pandemic is over.
Regardless of reports on the internet regarding a
fourth stimulus check, IRS spokesperson Eric Smith informed USA TODAY that no
such payment was ever issued.
Analysts disagree over whether a fourth stimulus check
will be delivered.
According to CBS News on Jan. 31, the government's
focus on infrastructure to support economic growth, combined with claims that
previous stimulus cheques contributed to persistent inflation, has reduced the
prospects of a new cash injection.
Several politicians have embraced the concept of
regular payments. On March 30, twenty-one senators, all Democrats, wrote to then Vice President Joe Biden in support of regular stimulus payments, arguing that
the IRS's $1,400 installments would not last long.
