Dr Oluwayemisi Olorunshola Is Named the New Chairman of Wema Bank

Wema Bank has appointed a new Board Chairman in the person of Dr. (Mrs.) Oluwayemisi Olorunshola. This came in after the Board of Directors of Wema Bank Plc made the announcement.

This directive was made in the company's statement to the Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX).

According to the statement, the appointment of Dr. (Mrs.) Oluwayemisi Olorunshola took effect following the retirement of Mr. Babatunde Kasali who will be going to retirement after reaching the retirement age which is stipulated in the Bank's Articles of Association.

Dr. (Mrs.) Oluwayemisi Olorunshola joined the Bank in 2022 as a Non-Executive Director and was the Chairman of the Board's Nomination and Governance Committee until her new employment.

According to the statement signed by Johnson Lebile, Wema Secretary/General Counsel, Dr. (Mrs.) Oluwayemisi Olorunshola the new Chairman has 15 years of experience working with Unilever Nigeria Plc where here experience cut across process management, supply chain, and business re-engineering. 

She also has 10 years of business management and boardroom experience. 

Looking into her educational portfolio, Oluwayemisi Olorunshola obtained her Bachelor's in Education and Economics from the prestigious Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife. She moved further to the University of Liverpool, UK, where she obtained her Master's in Business Administration. After which she got her Doctorate in Business Administration from Walden University, USA.

She is a well-trained professional in various aspects of cooperate governance practice and business management from training facilities such as Unilever UK, Leighton Academy, and H Pierson Four Acres Training Facility. She also has working experience in Distribution, Import & Export, Logistics Services, Procurement, and Business & Production Planning. 

Dr. (Mrs.) Oluwayemisi Olorunshola is a lover of education. Her publication on small business strategy which was published in the Journal of Functional Education (JFEAcademia), Academia.edu, and Proquest.com has been referenced by many scholars.

She is also a fellow and director of the international institute for African Scholars, the Institute of Management Consultants, a Member, of the Institute of Directors, and a chartered member of the Nigerian Chartered Institute of Personnel Management
