Reveals Partnership plans with the University of Lagos at the NUGA Games
Temi Popoola, the Chief Executive Officer of Nigerian
Exchange Limited ("NGX" or "The Exchange"), has stated that
the company is interested in cultivating the future generation of capital
market participants.
On Tuesday, March 15, 2022, he announced this at a
Digital Closing Gong Ceremony to commemorate the 26th Nigeria University Games
Association (NUGA) Games sponsored by the University of Lagos ("The University" or "UNILAG").
"We are delighted to cooperate with the
University of Lagos to offer courses that can yield degrees that are closely
tied to the capital market," Popoola said in his opening remarks. While we
have previously focused our workforce training on stakeholders in the capital
market ecosystem, we now consider students as prospective participants who can
help us improve our value chain.
Our efforts to raise awareness about the capital
market's prospects and benefits must extend to the growing number of people who
are uninformed about how it works, many of whom are enrolled in universities
around the country. Given the young demographic of Nigeria's population, which
accounts for 60% of the overall population, active involvement by this
demographic is important to the capital market's growth. We'll keep leveraging
technology to further automate process flows across the market's intermediaries."
Prof. Oluwatoyin Temitayo Ogundipe, FAS, Vice-Chancellor,
University of Lagos, thanked Nigerian Exchange Limited for the opportunity to
use the Closing Gong Ceremony to generate awareness for the NUGA Games.
"This competition will bring the world to the
University of Lagos and to Nigeria in general to exhibit the positive things
that are happening in the country, and NGX is one of the platforms that is
bringing good things to Nigeria," he said. The competition will be a
cosmopolitan affair, with activities taking place in a variety of venues across
Lagos State, including Teslim Balogun Stadium, Rowe Park, Yaba, and others.
The NUGA Games are themed "Education and
Culture" this year to highlight Lagos' cultural legacy. We estimate around
9,000 students and observers from approximately 75 universities to attend the
games, and they will all be hosted during the event. We continue our continuous
cooperation with NGX in the areas of research, innovation, and education
through this event, which will provide solutions to some of the country's
difficulties and highlight the University of Lagos as the University of First
Choice."
