Artificial
intelligence (AI) refers to the ability of machines or computer systems to

AI

What exactly does Artificial Intelligence mean?
To put things in a better perspective, let us go down memory lane to the history of AI.
Dating back to the 20th century, the term "artificial intelligence" was coined in 1956 in an early AI research focused on developing algorithms that could perform tasks typically associated with human intelligence, such as problem-solving and logical reasoning.
By the summer of 1956, the first AI system was already developed, created by a group of researchers led by John McCarthy, Marvin Minsky, Nathaniel Rochester, and Claude Shannon at the Dartmouth Conference.
This conference is considered to be the birthplace of AI, as it marked the first time that researchers from different fields came together to discuss the possibility of creating machines that could exhibit intelligent behavior.
At the conference, McCarthy, Minsky, Rochester, and Shannon proposed the creation of an artificial intelligence system that could mimic human intelligence by performing tasks such as understanding natural language, recognizing objects, and solving problems.
They believed that this could be
achieved by developing algorithms that could simulate the behavior of neurons
in the brain, an approach that came to be known as "symbolic AI."
The Dartmouth Conference initiated a new area of study that has since significantly advanced machine learning, natural language processing, computer vision, and robotics, among other fields, whereas the early AI systems were constrained by the computational power and data available.
AI has expanded over time to include a variety of methodologies, such as robotics, computer vision, machine learning, and natural language processing.
It has advanced significantly in recent years, with developments in fields like deep learning and reinforcement learning making it possible for computers to learn from massive quantities of data and make ever-sophisticated conclusions.
