Halima Aliko-Dangote, the daughter of Dangote Cement's owner and founder, Aliko Dangote, has been named as a non-executive director.
According to the company's announcement to the Nigerian Exchange Limited, the appointment took effect on February 26, 2022.
Mrs. Aliko-Dangote will reportedly be replacing the vacuum left by the death of her uncle, Sani Dangote, the Dangote Group's former vice president and a director, who died in November 2021.
The cement company announced a huge gain in earnings in 2021, with about a third increase in the bottom line, supported by a record turnover of N1.4 trillion, up from N1 trillion in 2020.
According to audited financials released on Monday, Africa's largest cement company increased output volume from 24.7 million to 28.5 million in the year under review to improve performance.
Mrs. Aliko-Dangote is the Group Executive Director (GED), Commercial Operations of Dangote Industries Limited, a diverse corporate conglomerate with interests in manufacturing, sugar, salt, poly-products, logistics, oil, and gas, and real estate. Dangote Industries Limited companies have a total market valuation of more than $25 billion.
As the firm's GED, Mrs. Aliko-Dangote is in charge of developing and implementing the Dangote Group's customer strategy in order to drive customer growth, improve customer relations, improve the customer experience, and increase long-term customer value. She is also in charge of the Group's shared services strategy, with the leadership of the following functions: commercial, strategic procurement, branding and communications, and corporate services.
She was previously the executive director of Dangote Flour Mills, where she oversaw the company's turnaround and recent sale at a higher-than-market price. She was also the Executive Director of NASCON Allied Industries Plc, a maker of salt, seasonings, and other consumer goods, prior to that.
She continues to serve on the NASCON Board of Directors as a Non-Executive Director. Mrs. Dangote is the president of The Africa Center (TAC) in New York, which serves as a forward-thinking hub for engagement with Africa through politics, business, and culture. She is a member of the Women Corporate Directors and a board member of Endeavour Nigeria (WCD).
Mrs. Aliko-Dangote has over 13 years of professional experience and has held many Executive Management positions, according to Dangote Cement. She has a Bachelor's degree in International Business with a Marketing emphasis from American Intercontinental University in London, UK, and a Master's degree in Business Administration from Webster Business School in London, UK.
She has participated in leadership development programs such as Harvard Business School's Program for Leadership Development (PLD), Kellogg School of Management's Executive Development Program, and Columbia Business School's Finance and Accounting for Non-Financial Executives. She is married with children and a Trustee of the Aliko Dangote Foundation.
