Femi Gbajabiamila, The former Speaker of the House of Representatives formally resigned as a lawmaker after being appointed as the Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu.
This development came 24 hours after he was inaugurated as a lawmaker representing Surulere 1 Federal constituency.
With the new appointment, the INEC will have to conduct a fresh election to select a new lawmaker to fill in the vacant position.
Alongside his appointment as Chief of Staff, the past Minister of Special Duties, and former Benue State Governor, George Akume was appointed as the new Secretary to the Government of the Federation.
In the acceptance speech as the new Chief of Staff, Gbajabiamila thanked the president for finding him worthy to hold such a position and promise to give his best as he begins work on June 14.
In his words, he said, “Having spent the last 20 years in the Nigerian Parliament, and after winning my 6th term election into the National Assembly, I shall work with Mr President in discharging the enormous task ahead of him for the peace and progress of the federal republic of Nigeria.
“I shall give my best when I take office on June 14 2023 as reflected in Mr. President’s official letter.’’
