He was born to art teacher Carol Olivia (née Williams) and Merchant Navy midshipman and steel erector Timothy John Wroughton Craig (1943–2020) in Chester, England. His father was the property owner of the Ring o' Bells in Frodsham and the Boot Inn in Tarporley, both in Cheshire. Craig has an older sister, Lea (b. 1965).
