Dana Air steps up its game
Nigerian airline Dana Air has its main office in Ikeja and operates out of Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos.
Nigerian airlines' first-ever domestic codeshare arrangement was launched by Dana Air and Ibom Air in May 2021. The Dana Ibom Air Alliance codeshare agreement is the first of its sort in Nigeria. As a result of the agreement, which represents a critical turning point for Nigeria's aviation sector, both airlines will operate flights to locations beyond their usual routes while also offering flights to locations that are shared by both.
An airline may place its two-letter identification code on another airline's flights as they appear in computerized bookings systems through a codesharing agreement, which is a business arrangement between two airlines.
Dana ban by the NCAA
Scheduled passenger flight 0992 operated by Dana Air flew from Abuja to Lagos. During its approach to Lagos on June 3, 2012, the McDonnell Douglas MD-83 aircraft operating the route experienced a twin engine failure. All 153 persons on board as well as six individuals on the ground perished when it crashed into buildings instead of arriving at its planned location. Since the Kano air tragedy in 1973, it has continued to be the deadliest commercial airplane crash in Nigerian history with 159 fatalities.
According to the Nigerian Accident Investigation Bureau (AIB), both aircraft's engines lost power as they approached Lagos. The gasoline lines for the engines were broken during improper installation, which prevented fuel from reaching both engines. The pilots decided not to declare an emergency during the early phase of the engine failure. The pilots' lack of situational awareness and bad judgment ultimately led to the aircraft crashing into buildings.
Following the accident, Nigeria's Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) grounded all of Dana Air's operations.
A return to the commercial flights scene
Dana Air has expanded its options for regaining its lost customer base since its return to the scene. The Nigerian airline rcentl added more flights to its network of routes between Lagos and Abuja.
The airline said in a statement that the inclusion of the extra flights was solely driven by public demand, the need to fulfill the rising demand, and the requirement to complete its strategic route growth.
The additional flights from Abuja to Lagos will operate at 12:40, 7:10, and 8.10 p.m., while the additional flights from Lagos to Abuja will operate at 2.30, 5:10, and 6.30 p.m.
The airline claimed that it is streamlining its network, offering reasonable rates, a hassle-free travel experience, and a consistent schedule for its passengers. This growth will be made across the network as more of our B737 aircraft are about to be delivered, the airline added.
