Commonwealth Open Applications for Its Young Professionals Programme (YPP)

The Commonwealth Secretariat has recently announced the opening of applications for interested candidates to its Young Professionals Programme (YPP).

The project aims to provide opportunities for young people from Commonwealth countries with excellent abilities and qualifications to actively participate in the organization's critical activities.

The Commonwealth also intends for the program to encourage the transfer of technical expertise, new ideas, and specialist knowledge.

Research shows that the Commonwealth Secretariat currently has a wide range of options available for interested individuals to investigate. For a two-year fixed-term contract, each successful applicant will be paid £29,070 per year.

Assistant Research Officer (Office of the Secretary-General)

This job is looking for applicants that the ability to do comprehensive research, both in academic and practical contexts, to analyze and interpret complicated circumstances and realities in a quickly changing world is required for the function. 


The post-holder will be responsible for performing in-depth and high-quality research, as well as preparing presentations and reports. They may also be involved in a variety of stand-alone and continuing project duties.


As part of this work, the qualified candidate may be expected to travel internationally for assignments. 


Course: A degree in Law, Political Science, or Health, as well as a post-graduate diploma or a comparable master's degree, are necessary for this role. 

Assistant Research Officer (Governance and Peace Directorate) x2

To qualify for this job, the post-holder should be competent to conduct academic and practical research and write reports. The job may require some overseas travel.


Course: A bachelor's degree in law, political science, or information technology is required, with a post-graduate diploma or a corresponding master's degree an advantage.

Assistant Research Officer (Economic, Youth & Sustainable Development Directorate)

The Assistant Research Officer is responsible for providing program, office, and research services to the Economic, Youth, and Sustainable Development Directorate (EYSD). 


This position entails providing technical and administrative assistance to the Senior Director's Office. The ideal candidate should be capable of addressing complex economic and sustainable development concerns in a dynamic global environment. 


Furthermore, the post-holder must be capable of performing extensive and high-quality research, as well as creating presentations, briefings, and speeches.


Course: A bachelor's degree in Economics, Environment, International Development, Public Finance, or a related discipline is required. It is advantageous to have a post-graduate diploma or a related master's degree.

Assistant Research Officer YPO (Trade Competitiveness)

The Assistant Research Officer assists the Trade Competitiveness section with the program, office, and research services.


The post holder is expected to do academic and practice-oriented research to comprehend and explain complicated circumstances and realities in a changing world, as well as to conduct high-quality research and provide presentations and reports.


The job may require some overseas travel.


Course: A bachelor's degree in Economics, Law, International Relations, International Trade, or a closely related field is necessary.

Eligibility criteria


  • To be eligible, applicants must submit separate applications for each position in which they are interested.

  • Candidates must also have a bachelor's degree or its equivalent in a relevant discipline. 


  • They should also have at least one year of proven work experience creating and implementing development or democracy-related projects or programs.
