Chiefs Quarterback, Patrick Mahomes Becomes The Youngest Part-owner Kansas City Royals At 24
Not too long when the Chiefs quarterback, Patrick Mahomes, said he has not bought anything of note since he signed his half-billion contract extension with Kansas City, he changed it by becoming one of the youngest owners of the professional sport, Kansas City Royals. Mahomes made a very good move that would not only benefit him now but also in the future when he decides to be a part-owner of the Kansas City Royals.
On Tuesday, the Royals announced that Mahomes has joined the club's group of owners. According to Royals, Mahomes, at 24 is the youngest part-owner of the professional sport in history. However, Royals is yet to reveal how much stake or share Mahomes would own in the sport.
“We are very proud and excited to have Patrick as our partner in the ownership group of this franchise,” said John Sherman, the team’s chairman, CEO, and principal owner. “Along with the rest of Kansas City, I have watched Patrick compete and become an extraordinary leader, both on and off the football field.

“Consistent with the entirety of our ownership group, he has a deep commitment to Kansas City and a real passion for the game of baseball–dating back to his childhood.”
Mahomes in a statement said, "I'm honored to become a part-owner of the Kansas City Royals...I love this city and the people of this great town. This opportunity allows me to deepen my roots in this community, which is something I'm excited to do."
Although Mahomes' career path is in football where he gained his fame as one of the best quarterback players, he has a history in baseball. In fact, Mahomes' father, Pat is a well-known pitcher in baseball and has played for not less than 11 seasons. Pat Mahomes has played with Minnesota Twins, Boston Red Sox, New York Mets, Texas Rangers, Chicago Cubs, and Pittsburgh Pirates.
In the same vein, while in college, Patrick Mahomes played both football and baseball until sophomore year when he decided to focus on football.
“Baseball had been pretty much his whole life growing up, and he always played basketball, too,” Mahomes’ father told USA Today earlier this year. “Those were his two sports. I was trying to keep him from playing football. But then his junior year in high school, he said he wanted to try this quarterback thing and see where it took him.”
Even as a well-known quarterback player for the Chiefs, Mahomes has made a few trips to Kauffman Stadium. He was part of the “Big Slick” softball game that was held in 2018 and even threw out the first pitch.
In Kansas City Chiefs, as the quarterback, Mahomes has won the NFL MVP award and was MVP of Super Bowl LIV, when he led his team into winning 31-20 against the San Francisco 49ers in February. Not long after this victory, he signed a 10 years contract extension worth $503 million
John Sherman, the CEO of the Kansas City Royals is in his first year of being the club's owner after buying the club from David Glass in November last year. Two months after the deal, Glass died in January and at age 84.
During the transaction, the Royals revealed about 22 other investors in the ownership group. These include actor and Kansas City, Kan. native Eric Stonestreet; the Dunn Family and JE Dunn; Carl Hughes of Hughes Sports, LLC; Brooks Sherman of Knothole Sports, LLC; Bill Gautreaux, managing partner of MLP Holdings; Terry Matlack, co-founder/managing director of VantEdge Partners; and Paul Edgerley, co-founder/managing director of VantEdge Partners. The group is headed by the CEO of the sport, Sherman.
Mahomes is now part of the group and the youngest among them.
“He’s proven himself to be one of the top professional athletes and competitors anywhere, and he’s built a championship culture,” Sherman said of Mahomes. “He loves football, but he also grew up loving the game of baseball. We look forward to many years of a winning partnership.”
