Chick-Fil-A supports black nonprofit organizations through its true inspiration awards
Chick-Fil-A has opened the portal for its True Inspiration Awards Grants for black-led nonprofits and organizations that are impacting their communities.
The restaurant chain will award $5 million in grants to 34 selected black-led non-profits and organizations that impact communities of color in the areas of education, hunger, and homelessness.
The True Inspiration Awards grants will give deserving organizations grants between $50,000 to $350,000 range. Applicants in the US and Canada have until May 31, 2021, to apply.
“There are incredible nonprofit organizations across the US and Canada working to address key issues that disproportionately affect communities of color in the areas of education, homelessness, and hunger,” said Rodney Bullard, vice president of corporate social responsibility for Chick-Fil-A. “Through our annual True Inspiration Awards, we are honored to help these organizations, based in communities we serve, extend their impact, helping to pave the way for greater opportunity and equity.”
The grant application for all eligible nonprofits is open on Chick-fil-A’s website. Nonprofits that are nominated by local Chick-fil-A operators are also eligible to apply. Voting will begin by September and would be restricted to only Chick-fil-A One_® members. Last year, about 1 million people voted through the app.
To be eligible, the applicant organizations must be a 501(c)(3) or a Canadian charitable organization with the equivalent of a 501(c)(3) in its jurisdiction. The majority of the organization’s board of directors, executive leadership, and staff must be black. Also, the organizations must have a history of impacting communities of color tangibly.
The Chick-fil-A True Inspiration Awards program was created out of the benevolence of Chick-fil-A’s founder S. Truett Cathy. Since 2015, the restaurant chain has awarded $12 million in grants to 171 organizations in 33 states, including Washington D.C. and Canada.
