Amazon Prime Day scheduled for October 13
Amazon Prime Day is
the annual 48-hour sales event that is organized by e-commerce giant, Amazon.
Amazon Prime Day
typically features deals on Amazon brands and personal labels, including
laptops, headphones, speakers, 4K TVs, small kitchen appliances, etc. Shoppers
do not need to wait until Tuesday to participate in the main Prime Day sales as
some of the deals are already available on Amazon.
The annual sales event,
which was originally intended for July, will kick off at midnight PT (3 a.m.
ET) on Tuesday, October 13, and run through October 14, according to Amazon. More
than 1 million items will be on sales, including “Lightning Deals” strictly for
Prime members.
Many shoppers look forward
to these sales every year. Although, this year may be quite different,
considering the dramatic turn of events and economic slowdown caused by the
coronavirus pandemic. However, Amazon is optimistic that many Americans will
still take a go at it, after many months of conserving cash.
According to the National
Retail Federation, there is much uncertainty about how much consumers are
willing to spend on the Prime Day sales as “the outlook is clouded, with
uncertainty pivoting on Covid-19 infection rates.”
Shopping strategist
Bethany Hollars says this year, many shoppers will be more focused on
essentials and good deals as they cut back on non-essentials. Therefore, “if
they can’t get a good deal, for a lot of people, they can’t buy it.”
Walmart and Target also
announced their sales event both lined up for the last quarter of the year.
While many shoppers will be focused on only essentials and good deals, this
year’s sales present a good opportunity for shoppers to get items at very cheap
rates.
This year has been
unprofitable for many retail stores. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, many
retail stores forcefully shutdown with much of their goods wasting away. Even
after the economy gradually reopened, customer patronage remains low and their
goods continue to waste away.
The beginning of it
Amazon Prime Day was
first introduced in 2015 to celebrate Amazon’s 20th anniversary. The
first of the event of this sale was only for a day and was available only to Prime
members. The event aimed to beat Black Friday as the sales event of the year.
During the Amazon Prime
Day, prices of items drop to all-time lows, sometimes beating process on Black
Friday and Cyber Monday. The Amazon sales include every category: fashion,
beauty, tech, home appliances, home and kitchen.
Amazon Prime Day sales
event is exclusive to Prime members. The signup process is easy and the membership comes with other benefits beyond Prime Day deals. New members get a free
30-day trial when they sign up.
