Following the ongoing Russian-Ukraine war, the
Nigerian government made a public announcement that its embassies around
Eastern Europe had begun welcoming Nigerians from Ukraine.
According to the Foreign Ministry, personnel from the
Nigerian Embassy have safely greeted 130 Nigerians in Bucharest, Romania, where
they will be accommodated and documented in the next 24 hours.
According to the ministry, 52 Nigerians have been
received in Warsaw, Poland, while 23 Nigerians are being processed at the
Polish Government Reception Point and Hala Kijowska, Milny 90, 37-552 Milny,
which is close to the Korczowa-Krakowiec border.
The Federal Government has stated that Nigerian

traveled into neighboring countries from Ukraine this week.
Nigerian Foreign Affairs Minister Geoffrey Onyeama
made the announcement, which was confirmed by Tolu Ogunlesi, the President's
media adviser.
He stated that everybody who can leave Ukraine will
be evacuated.
In an interview, the Minister stated that evacuation
flights to Nigeria will begin this week via Air Peace and Max Air from
Ukraine's neighboring countries.
"There are roughly 5,600 Nigerian students in
Ukraine, and a total of around 8,000 Nigerians," Ogunlesi stated, quoting

airlifted. (People have also successfully crossed into Poland and Hungary, as
well as roughly 150 in Sumy, Ukraine, where Russia is the closest border.) In
the next days, the Nigerian government would arrange chartered aircraft from
Air Peace and Max Air from nations surrounding Ukraine."
Not all Nigerians in Ukraine may wish to leave or be
evacuated, according to the Presidential spokesman, who stated that the FG is
stating that all those who want to and can travel to a neighboring country
(Ukraine airspace is now restricted to commercial planes) will be evacuated.
